Superman has a new leading lady - three-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams.
According to a new media report, the 36-year-old actress got the news today during a phone call with director Zack Snyder.
A string of Hollywood starlets had expressed interest in playing journalist Lois Lane in Superman: Man of Steel, which will also star British actor Henry Cavill of The Tudors fame in the title role.
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Superman's adoptive parents.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Snyder called Amy from Paris, where he is busy promoting his current movie Sucker Punch.
'There was a big, giant search for Lois,' Snyder told the Times.
He added: 'For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role.
We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and a
after that I just felt she was perfect for it.'
The Enchanted actress is fresh off an Academy Award nomination for her work in The Oscar-winning drama, The Fighter.
Amy played a bartender named Charlene who falls in love  with down-but-not-out boxer Micky Ward portrayed by Mark Wahlberg.
The last movie in the Superman series, Superman Returns was released in 2006.
It starred Iowa native Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel and Kate Bosworth  as Lois Lane, but  was considered a commercial failure.
It cost a reported $270 Million dollars to make and earned just $200 Million dollars in the United States.
The new film is a complete re-boot with new actors and a new director.
It is set to be released in December of 2012.
