Justin Verlander has garnered for his strong season, another trophy.

The pitcher for the Detroit Tigers was elected to the Cy Young Award for the best pitcher and most valuable player (MVP) of the American League. That there were not more than 25 years - then, legend Roger Clemens won both awards.

13 of the 28 eligible American sports journalists voted the 28-year-olds in the first place. Second was outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury (Boston Red Sox) before Jose Bautitsta (Toronto Blue Jays) and the two New York Yankees Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson.

Verlander, with 24 victories - since 1990 no longer reached MLB pitcher - and 250 strikeouts an exceptional year. Moreover, he succeeded in May was the second no-hitter of his career.

"As a Starting Pitcher for me it is a very special honor. For thou dost not stand each day on the field. I am grateful for the votes," said the best newcomer of 2006.
