Philadelphia officials announced today that two runners who participated in the traditional City Marathon died of heart attacks suffered in two separate during the test.

One of the dead fainted on the finish line, and earlier, another runner also collapsed when there was a quarter mile to finish the competition. According to Jillian Russell, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia police, the man who died after reaching the goal was 21, while the other runner who died was 40.

In both cases, Russell said the causes of death will be established after the autopsy practice them, but the first medical report stated that they had suffered two separate attacks.

The same source reported that both drivers had been treated immediately by medical services and entered the race immediately in a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The executive director of the Philadelphia Marathon, Melanie Johnson, through a statement, expressed "great sadness felt by all the organizers for the deaths of two runners." Johnson also reported that the names of the deceased would not be released until relatives were informed of what happened.
