Workers Party

 Minister Mah Bow Tan
NATIONAL Development Minister Mah Bow Tan has slammed the Workers' Party (WP) proposals to make new HDB flats cheaper, saying they will devalue the flats of one million current homeowners and illegally raid Singapore's reserves.
The WP, he added, was opposed to the Government's asset enhancement policy, and blamed HDB's upgrading programmes for pushing up flat prices.
'The WP's proposals for public housing leave many questions unanswered. It aspires to be the government one day. It should spell out clearly what its proposals will mean for present and future generations,' he said on Wednesday, in the Government's latest rebuttal to the WP on the subject of public housing.
The opposition party's secretary-general Low Thia Khiang had, last week, suggested the Government collect less from land sales. The WP had also, in its manifesto unveiled on April 9, proposed to peg the prices of new HDB flats to the median incomes of households that qualify to buy them, rather than to the resale market price before being discounted to ensure affordability.
