Career Builder

McDonald's
McDonald's has announced it'll hire 50,000 workers on a single day April 19th.

Though, not as dramatic as the fast food giant, other well-known companies are adding workers as well.

"Walmart is hiring hundreds of people in IT. Genteva is looking at healthcare, you have companies like AFLAC that are hiring across the board in sales and marketing," says CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson.

Ferguson says the new hiring is across the board.

"I do think that mid-size employers are coming back more strongly this year. I think you're seeing an improvement in the small business sector," he says.

At the big companies, Ferguson says he's seeing more than just sales staff being added.

"That's different than last year where you might have seen at a big company a couple areas or a division that was hiring, now you're seeing that across the board at all various levels," he explains.

An odd, unexpected consequence of this uptick in hiring might be the long-term unemployed looking for a job again and actually raising the unemployment rate.
