Crete Earthquake

Crete Earthquake
An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rattled the southern Mediterranean island of Crete on Friday, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said.
The epicenter was located in the sea about 225 miles southeast of Athens, between Crete and the Dodecannese island of Kassos, near the popular resort island of Rhodes.
Residents on Crete reportedly rushed out of their homes in panic after the quake, which took place at 4:30 p.m. and was felt as far away as Athens and Cairo, Egypt.
Seismologists said the earthquake had a sea depth of 35 miles, which explains why there were no injuries or serious damage.
