Ellen Degeneres

Dirty Soap’s Galen Gering has appeared on Daytime dramas Passions and Days of our Lives and now he can add As the Tide Turns to his resume. The Ellen DeGeneres Show spoof premiered this week, chock full of soap opera cliches including the shirtless soap stud.

Feeling Daytime fans’ pain over all the soap opera cancellations, most recently that of All My Children and One Life to Live, which are actually moving online, Ellen DeGeneres decided to step up and fill the void in the soap viewers’ afternoon. Sponsored by Tide, The Ellen DeGeneres Show began putting on their very own soap opera called As the Tide Turns.
Days of our Lives and Dirty Soap star Galen Gering appears in the second episode as Eduardo, who Ellen’s character, Tatiana, thought was supposed to be in the hospital with amnesia. That’s one soap cliché down. They get into a sí/no debate, which then leads to a fútbol/soccer argument. Both quibbles end in Galen getting a good old-fashioned slap across the face for soap staple number two. There are also some classically clichéd stares into the camera giving us soap trademark number three.

Of course, Eduardo also takes off his shirt (number four), as any good soap stud is required to do, and tries to seduce Tatiana. After witnessing her jealousy in the Dirty Soap series premiere, we were worried how Galen’s wife Jenna would feel about the love scene, until Tatiana declared she couldn’t marry Eduardo because…he is her father! Dun…dun…dun. The final twist makes that soap cliché number five. All that’s left is an evil twin and a baby switch.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show will unveil more drama all week on As the Tide Turns, promising that the “hunks will get hunkier and the twists get more twisted.” Could you see Galen’s E! reality show co-stars Brandon Beemer and John-Paul Lavoisier as Ellen’s next soap opera love interests?
