Prosecutors today charged Jesse Herrmann, a Holmen man involved in Saturday's crash that killed one and injured four others, with eight felonies, including homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
Herrmann, 27, also is charged with two counts each of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle and operating while intoxicated causing injury, plus hit-and-run resulting in death, hit-and-run causing injury and first-degree reckless endangerment. All are charged as a repeat offender.
He is due for a brief appearance in La Crosse County Circuit Court at 1:30 p.m. today.
Herrmann was driving north on Hwy. 35 in Holmen about 4 p.m. Saturday when his pickup slammed into a car turning on Evergreen Way. He had a 0.27 percent preliminary blood-alcohol level, according to court records.
Theresa Kroes, 23, of Onalaska died instantly. Four other women in the car were seriously injured.
Witnesses and police chased Herrmann when he ran from the crash.
He is prohibited from drinking alcohol as a condition of the federal supervised release he began serving May 6 for a methamphetamine distribution case.
