Former Chargers running back Darren Sproles has signed with the Saints less than 24 hours after the team dealt Reggie Bush to the Dolphins.
Jason La Canfora reports that Sproles’ deal is for four years. The contract is worth $14 million with $6 million guaranteed.
It did not take long for the Saints to fill the gap they left after they sent Bush packing. According to SB Nation, Sproles is a good fit for the Saints because his style is similar to Bush’s. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry for his career, while Bush has averaged just 4.0 yards per carry.
Sproles will also provide quarterback Drew Brees with another option in the passing game, as he likes to catch the ball out of the backfield.
The Saints already have Pierre Thomas at running back and drafted the much-talked about Mark Ingram, so Sproles will not be an every-down back. But he will provide another dimension for the highly explosive Saints offense.
