James, 42, a motorcycle customizer and former host of the Discovery Channel series "Monster Garage" became engaged to tattoo artist and reality star Von D in January, less than a year after his split from his wifeSandra Bullock, following news of his multiple affairs.
"We have something special that I've never felt with anyone I've ever been with," James told People. "She loves me like no woman ever has, 100 percent. Man, she has my back... She fell in love with me when I was being called Satan. If that's not a testament to what kind of a person she is and where her intentions are, I think nothing is."
Von D, 29, has said she does not mind critics of her relationship with James and told OnTheRedCarpet.com after the two stepped out together: "People are going to say whatever they're going to say. They've criticized every relationship I've ever been in."
"Not only does she love me, but she loves me so much that she was willing to subject herself to everything that I was going through and all the ridicule that she got for being with me... I believe 100 percent that she loves me and you know what? I've never believed that about anybody."
He and Bullock, 46, married in 2005. The two split in March 2010 amid reports James had cheated on Bullock, which he later confirmed. The Oscar-winning actress filed for divorce in April 2010 and it was finalized that June.
In September 2010, after the divorce, James stepped out in public with Von D and the two confirmed they were in a relationship. In January, the two announced their engagement.
Months after the divorce, James closed up his West Coast Choppers motorcycle shop in Southern California, where he had lived with Bullock, and moved permanently to Texas with his three children from previous relationships - Chandler, Jesse Jr. and Sunny. Von D runs a successful tattoo parlor in Los Angeles but James says that she plans on moving to his compound outside of Austin eventually and in the meantime, he's building her a studio on the property.
"She's going to eventually move [to Texas]," James said. "What would you rather have a perfect partner and be logistically challenged or a half-assed partner who lives next door?"
Bullock lives in New Orleans with her adopted son Louis, who the couple brought home in January 2010. After their split, she announced she would raise him as a single parent.
