And never mind the warm-and-fuzzy feelings that come with dating a Hollywood star; the only way Nashville singer McDonald could be luckier with this love match is if Reed turned out to be Justin Bieber's long lost sister.
Having as rabid a fan army as the Twilight crowd on his side is only going to help with Idol's weekly, fan-voted popularity contest. So, well played, sir. Between the Twihards and your featured status onVoteForTheWorst.com, we'll be seeing your scruffy face for a long time. (Idol contestants: if you want to even out this playing field, you should consider whoring yourself out to a Hunger Games star. Like, yesterday.)
Still, we'd like to think that there's more to Reed and McDonald's hookup than Idol campaign strategy.
The new couple met on the red carpet at Red Riding Hood's L.A. premiere early last month -- where the Idol cameras managed to catch Reed and McDonald's first meeting, in all its candid cutesiness.
Watch it below -- but we'll just run through the highlights for maximum "awww" factor. The tape catches McDonald and Reed saying hello on the red carpet:
Reed (to McDonald): "You're amazing. I'm blushing, I should go." (Reed's eyes grow two sizes larger, cute widdle puppy dog-style.)
McDonald: "Wow, thank you!"
(The two embrace...awkwardly. A dazzled-looking McDonald turns to the camera once Reed has escaped the frame.)
McDonald: "Was she a famous actress or something? I'd hang out with her!"
According to E! News, any "hanging out" the couple has been doing, however, has mostly been over Skype -- which, with a little luck, will progress into live Ustreams urging fans to vote for McDonald/buy tickets for the upcoming Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
