Monta Ellis

Monta Ellis
Let's delve into the curious case of Monta Ellis. It is a tale of quick shots, and high risk defense. This story takes place on a team that will once again finish out of the playoff picture.
Monta Ellis is good. In fact, he is remarkably good. However, I am here to tell you that he could be so much better. Ellis and the Warriors are one night removed from pummeling the defending champion Lakers into submission.
They won the same way they always win. They jacked up more shots, and ran the big fellas ragged. The Warriors motto fits perfectly with Monta Ellis. He is a shoot first ask questions much later type of player.
This works fine for his current team. They would rather see their star flirt with the 30 points a night mark than actually win ball games. What excites me is the thought of Ellis playing on a contender. For him, patience and court vision would lift his game to the next echelon.
He has always been a volatile player. It's what works for him now. He is a young player that relies too heavily on his athleticism to get his points. If he took a step back every once in a while, the system would work wonders for him.
As it is, the Warriors, and to a large part Ellis, are feast or famine. It is a frustrating exercise in futility. They score buckets by the boatload but go nowhere in the end.
I don't think Monta Ellis is overrated. I think he is exactly the star we think he is. He just hasn't mixed maturity with talent yet. He gambles for the steal too often, forces shots and fails to see open teammates.
These will all be worked out in due time. I just wish it was sooner rather than later. The clock is ticking and you have a bunch of All-Star teams to make.
