About Bryant University
Bryant is coming off an 11-10 victory over Sacred Heart on Friday, Apr. 9. Mary Green led the Bulldogs with three goals and one assist in the game, while Lindsay Gilfeather netted two goals. Bryant scored eight of the first nine goals in the contest, including a seven-goal spurt to begin the game. Despite being outscored in the second half, 7-3, the Bulldogs were able to hold on for its third NEC victory of the season. Leauren Filippone made seven saves in net for Bryant. Overall, Haley Bloom leads the team with 31 points (19 goals, 12 assists), while Katherine Keckeisen (19 goals) and Lisa Vendel (14 goals, four assists) are second and third on the team in points, respectively. Filippone has played the bulk of the minutes in net, accumulating a .510 save percentage to go along with an. 11.77 goals against average on the season.
All-Time Against The Bulldogs
Sunday's game will be the third time the two sides face each other, with Quinnipiac owning the all-time series lead, 2-0. In their last meeting on March, 13, 2010, Quinnipiac defeated Bryant, 18-10. Sophomore Marissa Caroleo(North Babylon, N.Y.) scored a career high seven goals to lead the Bobcats. Freshman Chelsea Guerrera (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished with six points (three goals, three assists), while sophomore Devon Gibney(Hopkinton, Mass.) collected five points (four goals, one assist) in the game. Junior defender Kaitlyn Kelly (North Massapequa, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high seven ground balls, while junior Lauren Matuszczak (East Longmeadow, Mass.) fought for a team-high four draw controls. Junior goalie Lexi DeStefano (Brookfield, Conn.) and sophomore goalie Noelle Martello (Westbury, Conn.) combined to make seven saves in net for Quinnipiac, which earned its first NEC victory of the season with the win.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac extended its winning streak to seven games with a 13-12 overtime victory against Columbia on Wednesday, Apr. 6. In what marked the second-consecutive overtime game for the Bobcats, junior Devon Gibney (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal at the 4:33 mark of the first overtime period. Sophomore Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) paced Quinnipiac with six assists, while senior Kaitlyn Kelly (North Babylon, N.Y.) led the team with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior goalie Noelle Martello(Westbury, Conn.) made 12 saves in net, including two key saves in overtime to preserve the win for Quinnipiac.
Allen A Day's Work
Sophomore Sarah Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) a was key player in Quinnipiac's offense on Wednesday, Apr. 6 against Columbia, as she collected six assists in the outing. Her six assists in the first half set a new program record for most assists in one half. Allen's six-assist outing was the most assists by a Quinnipiac player in a game since Katie Latonick collected eight assists in a 14-9 victory over Bryant on April, 3, 2009.
Century-Mark Milestones
Senior Lauren Matuszczak (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Devon Gibney(Hopkinton, Mass.) each eclipsed 100 career points in just two games separated from one another. On Friday, Apr. 1 against Sacred Heart, Gibney collected two assists to give her 101 points in her career at the time. On Wednesday Apr. 6 against Columbia, Matuszczak netted two goals and an assist to give her 101 career points as well. Gibney has now accumulated 80 goals and 24 assists in her career, while Matuszczak has 64 goals and 37 assists in her career.
Protecting The Cage
Martello recorded a season-high 14 saves against Denver in a 16-15 double overtime win on Sunday, Apr. 3. She followed up that effort with a 12-save performance on Wednesday, Apr. 6 in a 13-12 overtime victory over Columbia. She currently ranks third in the NEC with a 10.90 goals against average, fourth in saves per game (9.60) and fifth in save percentage (.475).
Ahead Of The Pack
Quinnipiac leads all NEC teams in goals scored per game (13.40), assists per game (6.50), points per game (19.90) and draw controls per game (14.70). The Bobcats rank third in the league in caused turnovers per game (8.20) and are fourth in goals against average (11.84).
Thrice Is Nice
Senior Laura Iannotti (Rocky Point, N.Y.) has scored three goals in three straight games for the Bobcats. She currently ranks third on the team with 22 goals scored and is fifth on the team with 23 total points.
NEC Player of the Week
Caroleo earned her first-career NEC Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Monday, Apr. 4. The junior posted an amazing 10 total points (nine goals, one assist) during the week, to lead the Bobcats to wins over Sacred Heart and Denver. On Friday, Apr. 1 against Sacred Heart, Caroleo scored a game-high six goals (her second career six-goal game) to lead Quinnipiac to a decisive 14-5 victory. On Sunday, Apr. 3 against Denver, Caroleo's three goals and one assist, including a score in the first period of the first overtime, helped Quinnipiac defeat Denver, 16-15, in its first-ever meeting with the Pioneers. Caroleo also added three ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers combined in both weekend games. The junior leads the team in goals (30), points (35) draw controls (23) and ground balls (26).
NEC Co-Defensive Player Of The Week
Kelly received her third-career Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, Apr. 4. She strung together the two best games of her 2011 season, as she collected eight ground balls, six caused turnovers and one draw control in both weekend games combined. The senior led Quinnipiac in both games with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Kelly rose to the challenge of defending the opposition's top talents, holding both foes to just two points total during the weekend. She currently leads the Bobcats with 13 caused turnovers and is second on the team with 22 ground balls.
Synapse Sports Honor Roll Selection
Senior Jennifer Skipper (Centerport, N.Y.) has been named to this week's Synapse Sports Honor Roll team, as announced on Monday, Apr. 4. Synapse Sports, formerly womenslacrosse.com, makes weekly Defensive, Offensive and Rookie of the Week selections, as well as honor roll selections for NCAA Division I, II and III schools. Skipper is the first women's lacrosse player to earn a Synapse Sports Selection during the 2011 season
