The weekend’s obvious box office winner was Hop, the Easter-themed animated movie starring James Marsden and characterizing Russell Brand as the tone of the Easter. The animated bunny flick leads with over $38 million , the year’s best debut so far.
Bunny’s son, “E.B..” The family-friendly movie went beyond industry expectations and earned a striking $38 million in its debut weekend, the largest U.S. opening so far of 2011.
The mind-bending thriller starring Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan, was not even a close second, garnering $15 million in full amount box office receipts.
Just at the back of that was odd, low-budget horror flick subtle starring Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson, nabbing $13.5 million for its first weekend opening.
Last week’s movie at number 1, the correspondingly kid-friendly Diary of a Wimpy Kid, grounded in the fourth position with another $10.2 million earned. Rounding out the top five. Recently single Bradley Cooper’s Limitless, yielding $9.4 million in its third weekend in theaters.
