Hyundai Elantra

As gas prices skyrocket to $4.29 in some Chicagoland areas, personal finances have become synonymous with fuel economy. Based on recent surveys, the Hyundai Elantra was the only non-hybrid to make the list of the top ten most fuel-efficient cars. Ranked as the ninth most fuel-efficient car, the four-cylinder, gas-fueled Hyundai Elantra is the better deal economically, according to TrueCar.com.
The Hyundai Elantra has a starting price of $14,830 and standard 40-mpg highway fuel economy. The Hyundai Elantra demonstrates that fuel efficiency can be attained in a high-volume, non-hybrid vehicle without adding specific fuel economy packages.
However, the Prius has a combined city/highway fuel mileage rating of 49.6 miles per gallon and is the most fuel-efficient cars sold in the United States, according toTrueCar.com. The 2011 Prius has an average price of $22,235, with a typical city/highway mix of 15,000 miles a year that would require 302 gallons of gas.
According to The Chicago Sun Times, “when purchasing a fuel-efficient vehicle, consumers should consider two factors - price and annual cost of fuel,” saidTrueCaranalyst Jesse Toprak. “If you’re looking for the most fuel-efficient car, the Toyota Prius wins. If you’re looking for the most cost-effective and fuel-efficient car, the Hyundai Elantra is the clear winner.”
