Independent candidate Andrew Kuan has announced that he will 'graciously step aside' to avoid a three-cornered fight at the Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency (SMC), reported The Straits Times.
The People's Action Party (PAP) is fielding Charles Chong, 57, for the ward, while the Worker’s Party (WP) is expected to field Yee Jenn Jong, 46.
Mr Kuan, a 57-year-old business consultant who made a bid to run for President in 2005, said that he can ‘serve the Joo Chiat residents in other ways’.
Mr Kuan declined to comment if he had discussed his decision with the Workers’ Party.
