A former United States Postal Service employee pleaded guilty in St. Paul Federal Court on Monday to stealing cash and gift cards from the mail over a 10 month period.
Christina M. Steiner, age 36, of Forest Lake, pleaded guilty to one count of theft of mail by a postal employee.
Steiner, who was indicted on Dec. 7, 2010, entered her plea before United States District Court Judge Donovan W. Frank. She did not enter a plea agreement.
The indictment filed against Steiner states that between December of 2009 and Sept. 18, 2010, Steiner stole between $600 and $800 in cash and gift cards from the mail entrusted to her as an employee of the Forest Lake Post Office.
For her crime, the former USPS employee faces a potential maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.
