Speaking on the occasion, Dr. K.R.Dhiman said that self help groups, banks and scientists should work in close co-ordination and their integrated efforts could boost rural growth. He said that farmer oriented programmes were the main focus of the University and NABARD was supplementing their efforts through financial assistance. He said that self help groups were playing a significant role in empowering women in rural areas and added that they were also strengthening the co-operative movement in the State. He stressed upon identifying commodities according to the requirement of particular areas and suggested them to foray into new areas like handicrafts, bamboo articles etc besides floriculture, vegetable and mushroom cultivation. He said that the University was holding fairs and training programmes for farmers and SHGs to acquaint them about latest technological developments.
Shri A.D.Ratnoo, Chief General Manager NABARD who presided over the function, said that the Self Help Group movement had emerged as a potent instrument for transforming the lives of rural people, especially the rural women. He informed that 55000 self help groups have been formed and out of them 52000 SHGs have been credit linked in the State.
He said that 1607 Farmer clubs had been formed so far and added that credit worth Rs 1000 crore disbursed during the current year through NABARD.
Shri S.K.Bal General Manager, Reserve Bank of India and Shri Anil Bakshi, Convener SLBC also spoke on the occasion.
Kisan Tribal Club Randoh Dt. Bilaspur, Kranti Kisan Club Chowkar Bhangadi Dt. Sirmour and Himachal Kisan Club, Suliyali Dt. Kangra were adjudged first, second and third and awarded a memento and certificate. Among Farmer Club branches, Himachal Gramin Bank, Branch Ghumarwin, Distt. Bilaspur, HPSCB, Branch Nauradhar, Distt. Sirmour and Himachal Gramin Bank, Branch Suliyali, Distt. Kangra whereas JCCB, Arki, Solan, HPSCB, Paonta Sahib, Sirmour, HGB, Joginder Nagar, Mandi, HGB, Mahadev, Mandi, PGB, Mangla,Chamba, SBI, ADB, Palampur, Kangra and SBI, Ghorab, Kangra were awarded for their contribution in Self Help Group Linkage ( Coperative Bank Branches) Category.
Among the Commercial Banks Category, State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, UCO Bank, Jogindra Central Cooperative Bank and Himachal Grameen Bank were awarded whereas among the NGOs Jyoti Mahila Kisan Vikas Samiti, Solan, Mahila Jagriti Swayam Sewi Sansthan, Shimla, Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development, Kangra and Jagriti Mahila Kisan Samiti Solan were awarded for their outstanding contribution in promoting, nurturing and financing of SHGs.
