Mysore University |
While one of its students recently grabbed headlines by complaining of sexual harassment by her professor, it has now emerged that she may not be the first to have been treated this way.
A similar complaint was made last year by another student, this time from Tanzania, but unlike the present case, it was more or less hushed up although an inquiry was ordered and the professor concerned was found guilty as accused. Tarnishing the image of the university further, the professor in question appears to have got off scot free with no action having been taken against him till date.
The fact that the incident was not as much publicised as that of research student M. Sarita, appears to have worked against the Tanzanian student, who is still waiting for justice.
In Sarita’s case the state government took the matter seriously and the accused professor, Shivabasavaiah was suspended pending inquiry. But Tanzania national, a final year B.A. student of Mahajana College was not as lucky.
She lodged her complaint as way back as May 13 last year claiming that an associate professor from the department of criminology had misbehaved with her.
