Kate Winslet was dressed to thrill at the premiere of "Mildred Pierce" in New York last night. She stole the spotlight from her younger co-star, Evan Rachel Wood, in aStella McCartney sheath dress with a sweeping sheer panel down her left side. So sheer, in fact, that although she kept her arm at her side for photographs, it was speculated the dress required the actress to "go commando".
Was she or wasn't she? Winslet wasn't telling. She demonstrated her fashion prowess by whisking the dress straight from runway to red carpet... It was seen on the catwalk for the first time at McCartney's autumn/winter 2011 collection at Paris Fashion week mere days ago.
The red carpet moment marks a fashion tour de force for Winslet, 35. She is currently the face of Lancôme, a beauty contract most supermodels would give their eye teeth for, and has this month's cover of Vogue, her third - shot by Mario Testino.
Winslet stars as Mildred Pierce in a five-part mini-series on HBO, based on James M. Cain's 1941 novel. The last actress to tackle the role on the silver screen was Joan Crawford in 1945.
