Sam Lowes led a PTR 1-2 during the second World Supersport free practice session at Donington Park as both he and James Ellison established a good margin between themselves and their rivals.

Lowes was the consistent front runner, gradually lowering his best times to an eventual 1min 31.737secs, with only Ellison on the Bogdanka PTR machine able to get close at 1min 31.797secs.

Even so, with cooler conditions greeting the riders, lap times were around half a second slower than those set during provisional qualifying.

Yamaha duo Luca Scassa and Chaz Davies followed in third and fourth – albeit four and eight tenths adrift respectively -, ahead of Vladimir Ivanov, who put in his most convincing performance so far this season with a run to fifth position.

Though he was one of several riders to suffer a tumble, Broc Parkes recovered to sixth, ahead of Florian Marino, Robbin Harms, Massimo Roccoli and Alexander Lundh.

Indeed, the Craner Curves were proving a treacherous challenge for the riders, with Parkes, David Salom, Bastien Chesaux, Ronan Quarmby, Gino Rea and Balazs Nemeth all crashing at the same spot.

Fabien Foret, meanwhile, did not participate after aggravating his hand injury in a fall during Q1.
