iPad 2 Canada |
John Winslow and family friend, Harley Pawluck, 17, spent the entire night at Southgate Centre in their lawnchairs in hopes of being among the first in Alberta to get their hands on Apple’s iPad 2.
The self-described “gadget geeks” were seen sitting in front of the mall’s Apple Store at around 6 p.m. Thursday wearing iPad-labelled T-shirts.
“I waited in line for the last one (the original iPad) for 18 hours and I didn’t get one,” said Winslow who plans to play hooky from his work Friday when Apple launches it’s highly-anticipated gadget across Canada.
“When I got to the store, they told me they didn’t have any more iPads and then they kicked us out.
“I want to make sure I get one this time. There is so much to love about this new iPad.”
Winslow says he recently became in love with Apple’s products since he bought an iPhone 3 when it came out two years ago. Since then, he’s been trying to get his hand on every new Apple product.
The new iPad, which caused massive line-ups at stores across the U.S. earlier this month, is lighter than the Apple’s original tablet.
It’s also lighter, faster, and offers a front and rear camera.
An iPad 2 that comes with Wi-fi and 3G is expected to retail for $619 in Canada.
An Apple spokeswoman could not be reached for comment, but the company has told customers the units won’t be available until 5 p.m. Friday.
“People will get turned away Friday,” said Pawluck. “At least it won’t be us.”
The first iPad -- which went on sale a year ago -- sold 300,000 on the first day, 500,000 units in the first week and it crossed the 1 million unit mark in 28 days.
