Diabetes

Diabetes
“Type-2 diabetes is a disease that can, with lifestyle changes, be prevented… if you’ve got enough time to change your ways. But although some individuals who display several of the risk factors – obesity, high blood pressure, unhealthy diet, a sedentary lifestyle – may go on not to develop the disease, others who may only display one or two risk factors do sometimes go on to get diabetes.”
Researchers in Massachusetts General Hospital US, think that they may have another way to determine risk of type 2 diabetes. They have pinpointed five amino acids that take place at specific level in people who are at increased risk of developing diabetes. The amino acid levels would allow the doctors to see if who is most likely to develop the disease even the risk factors are the same.
The new found test by the researchers would predict the likelihood of diabetes for up to a decade into future. For that, those who were at risk may have time to alter their lifestyle in order to prevent the disease. The risk may come in the form small molecules that are produced during metabolic process. Diabetes is the result when the body’s unable to metabolise glucose, levels of these amino acids can point out whether glucose regulation is to be adversely affected.
Researchers examine the amino acid levels of diabetes patients; they have found out that those who had the same risk factors for diabetes, with highest levels of three of amino acids were five or more expected to develop diabetes compared to those with lowest levels. Moreover, research is needed to justify the said test and to know exactly how effective it is.
