Multiple birth pregnancies are often come with high risks, but a Pennsylvania woman successfully gave birth to three girls and three boys last week in what she is calling a “miracle.”
The sextuplets, named Emma, Samantha, Olivia, John, Patrick and Connor, join Stacey Cary and her husband, Brendan, as well as the couple’s 16-month-old daughter.
"Our family of nine is now complete," Stacey, who conceived with the help of fertility specialists, said to a hospital room filled with reporters. "We weren't expecting a family this big, but we're happy now."
The babies were delivered via a cesarean section at the Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania. A total of 60 hospital staff members were on hand to ensure the babies, born at a premature 27 weeks, received the best care possible upon delivery.
"They did what they do every day, but they did it six times. So it was pretty spectacular," Barbara Wadsworth, the hospital's senior vice president and chief nursing officer, told CNN.
The babies remain under a watchful eye in the hospital and are all on ventilator and IV support as they are still under a high risk for complications.
