OJ Simpson

O.J. Simpson’s confession.
His admission, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, that he did indeed murder his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman, on that awful June 12th, 1994, night.
This is her dream, Oprah Winfrey told Paula Zahn during an interview at the National Cable and Telecommunication Association conference in Chicago yesterday.
“I have a dream of O.J. Simpson confessing to me. And I am going to make that happen, people. I don’t just want the interview. I want the interview on the condition that you are ready, Mr. Simpson.”
The now infamous Nicole Brown Simpson/Ron Goldman murder who-done-it captivated viewers in the U.S. and around the world 17 years ago. Yes, the 17th anniversary of that ridiculous 60 mile low speed chase through Los Angeles is today. How time flies.
The trial began January 25, 1995, with the prosecution charging that O.J. Simpson killed Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in a fit of jealous rage. The defense team, who many called the “Dream Team”, countered, calling into question the circumstantial and DNA evidence.
One of the most memorable parts of the trial involved a leather glove. The glove, which had been soaked with blood from both victims and O.J. Simpson. It was an important part of the evidence against Simpson, but not the only evidence.
When Simpson attempted to put the glove on in front of the jury, it was apparently to small. It didn’t fit. Never mind that the prosecution countered afterwards that it had shrunk after being bloodsoak and then frozen and thawed several times during the investigation. Never mind that they later charged that Simpson manipulated the fitting, and that fingers were swollen due to him skipping his arthritis medication in the days prior to the attempt to put the glove on. Never mind that he tried the gloves on over a pair of latex gloves he was already wearing. The image of Simpson standing there, trying to pull on gloves that would obviously not go onto his hands, stuck. The famous line “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit” was used at that point, and several others, by defense attorney Johnnie Cochran. That stuck as well.
The jury’s decision came on October 3rd, 1995. In a shock to many who had watched the nearly year long trial unfold on TV, O.J. Simpson was found ‘not guilty’. Many to this day, apparently including Oprah Winfrey, believe that he did commit the murders.
While Oprah Winfrey no longer has her daily show, she does own her own network (in conjunction with Discovery Communications, Inc). It is called OWN. Zahn had asked Winfrey what guests she would like to have as guests for specials on OWN. In addition to Simpson and his confession, she also listed Susan Smith, who was convicted in South Carolina, in 1995, of the murder of her two sons. Winfrey said she would like to have Smith explain her thoughts and actions at the time of the murders.
