The cyber police have arrested a man for allegedly creating fake Facebook profile of another man which stated that he is into gay sex. Investigations revealed that the arrested person has been harassing the victim and forcing him to have a relationship with him.
On being refused, he created the fake profile, and placed victim’ number on the profile, after which victim started receiving obscene calls and messages. The arrested has been identified as Raman Vijay Handa.
According to the police, victim works as an assistant manager in a private firm for the past two and a half years and uses his official email ID and Facebook (FB) frequently. His FB profile, which he used since past two years, contains his photo.
“On January 16, the victim received an obscene call on his mobile. The caller was making inquiries about gay sex. Soon the number of calls increased. The victim learnt that his contact number had been uploaded on FB. On searching, he learnt that a FB account, similar to his had been uploaded; containing his photograph, name, email ID and malicious details on gay sex. The victim then lodged a police complaint. Our inquiry revealed that Handa was behind the mischief,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.
The officer added that the victim and accused knew each other for the past four years. “In December last year, Handa met a friend of the victimin Santa Cruz and had told her that they both are in a gay relationship and will soon get married. When the victim learnt about this, he stopped meeting Handa,” the officer said.
“After they stopped talking, a few days later the victim’s car and bike were found burnt. Also on February 15, an unknown person attacked the victim when he was travelling. In all these cases, Handa had made phone calls to the victim and asked about the incidents. Handa has also been making calls to the victim and threatening to tell his family about their relationship,” the officer said.
