Tin Pei Ling

Tin Pei Ling
Press reports have suggested that Ms Tin Pei Ling, at 27 years of age will be the PAP candidate for MacPherson under the Marine Parade GRC. As a voter in MacPherson estate, I follow very closely to her press statements, achievements and credentials.

Indeed a very promising brave young lady from a humble background. Her desire to use the social media to reach up to the younger generation in the coming election is probably the right approach but certainly not if she is going to be the candidate for MacPherson.

MacPherson estate is one of the oldest if not the oldest estate left untouched over the last 40 years. Nothing has changed in term of new developments or infrastructures despite the new MacPherson MRT station and soon to be completed Mattar MRT stations within the estate itself and the new Paya Lebar regional centre just across the road. The estate as reported is made up of mostly the lower income group with more senior citizens and the elderly sick. Using social media is not going to help her to reach out to these people in her ward. Ms Tin should be better deployed to a new town like Seng Kang where the demographic profiles of the voters fit hers.

The incumbent MP Mr Matthais Yao at 52 and being MP for MacPherson for the last 20 years has not been able to get the various government agencies to turn MacPherson around. One cannot help thinking that Ms Tin can succeed what Mr Yao has failed. What MacPherson needs is someone who can see the economic potential of this aging estate and turn it into a hub inline with Paya Lebar regional centre. I think only people of some ministerial level could push this through, certainly not Ms Tin or Mr Yao.
